ARM Architecture has undergone a number of changes while moving from one version to another version.
ARM VERSION 1 (1983-1985)
- First ARM processor version to be commercialized.
- It had 26 Bit Addressing capabilities.
- No support for multiplication. No additional Co-Processor support
ARM VERSION 2
- Included 32 bit result multiply Co-Processor
- Enhanced to 32 bit Addressing capabilities
- Added Signed, Unsigned half-word and signed byte load and store instructions
ARM VERSION 4T
- 16-bit Thumb compressed form of instruction sub-set introduced. Hence increase in code density as same amount of memory can now be used to store more instructions
- Superset of 4T. Added additional ARM/Thumb instructions
ARM VERSION 5TE
- Added Signal Processing signal extensions/instructions.
ARM 6: v3
ARM 7: v4
ARM 7TDMI: v4T
ARM 9E-S: v5TE
